Spatial Multi-omics of Alzheimer's Disease in Down Syndrome The Swarup Lab at the University of California, Irvine, jointly with the laboratory of Liz Head, is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to build a large-scale spatial multi-omics atlas of Alzheimer's disease in Down syndrome. This project brings together a uniquely large human brain cohort with emerging spatial technologies to measure the transcriptome and epigenome in situ . The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across the full experimental and computational pipeline, from tissue and library preparation through large-scale single-cell and spatial analysis, multi-omic integration, and method development. We are equally interested in candidates with experimental or computational backgrounds . Experimental candidates may bring experience in single-cell or spatial genomics, tissue processing, library preparation, or related genomic technologies. Computational candidates may bring experience in single-cell or spatial analysis, computational genomics, multi-omic integration, bioinformatics, or method development. Candidates with experience spanning both areas are particularly encouraged to apply. The position is designed to provide opportunities to expand into the complementary side of the experimental-computational pipeline. Expertise in single-cell or spatial multi-omics is preferred. Prior research experience in Alzheimer's disease or Down syndrome is a plus. The project offers access to data that have not previously been generated at this scale, substantial opportunities for methodological innovation, close interaction between experimental and computational research, and strong opportunities for first-author publications . Additional NIH T32 training support may be available to eligible candidates who meet
NIH NRSA
requirements, including applicable citizenship/residency and postdoctoral-experience criteria. T32 eligibility is not required to apply for the position. We particularly encourage applications from recently graduated Ph.D. scientists and early-career postdoctoral fellows.

Dr. Edward Steinhaus, the first Dean of UCI's School of Biological Sciences, insisted that one of the School's departments be devoted to behavior and its neural substrates because he felt that this field was too important to be left solely to other disciplines. Steinhaus organized the School's three other departments according to levels of biological organization but gave founding chair Dr. James L. McGaugh the task of forming a Department to study neural function at all levels, from molecules through cells, circuits, and systems to behavioral interactions with the environment. The department has since changed the name that Steinhaus gave it (Psychobiology) but has not changed its mission. We remain committed to studying how the brain produces adaptive behavioral responses and to teaching future generations of neuroscientists how to be independent and effective problem solvers.
