  • Entomology Co-Op | | | Join our team and help advance entomological research by designing, conducting, and interpreting complex experiments; troubleshooting insect bioassays; effectively communicating research findings; collaborating with lab team members to deliver results; and identifying opportunities for system or process improvements.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support hemipteran insect diet and plant bioassays by developing new assays and improving existing assays using robust scientific approaches;
  • Design, conduct and interpret complex entomological studies in lab, growth chamber and greenhouse environments;
  • Identify process improvements, test, troubleshoot, and provide solutions to technical problems;
  • Apply critical thinking, strategic mindset, and foresight in evolving technical and business environments;
  • Present final project(s)/recommendation(s) to team at the conclusion of the co-op/internship;
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
  • Currently enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program pursuing a degree in entomology, plant sciences, molecular biology, or related discipline;
  • Working knowledge of insect rearing, hemipteran insects, Omics, artificial diets, plant‑insect interactions;
  • Ability to design, conduct, troubleshoot experiments, run basic statistics, and report results;
  • Possess problem‑solving skills and able to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong background in plant‑insect interactions, insect feeding behavior, insect physiology, RNAi, molecular biology, Omics;
  • Experience with insect bioassays, insect dissections, transgenic cropping systems.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $22.75 to $47.75. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits may include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc (if relevant). This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
