Job Description:
SUNY Schenectady County Community College is seeking a part-time Technical Specialist for the Division of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism (HCAT). Do you have a passion for culinary arts and a knack for keeping kitchens running like clockwork? At the School of Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism (HCAT), we're not just shaping future chefs and hospitality leaders ? we're crafting immersive, hands-on learning experiences that start behind the scenes. We're looking for a part-time Technical Specialist to join our dynamic team and help bring our state-of-the-art culinary labs to life. In this essential support role, you'll work closely with faculty and staff to ensure classes run smoothly, students are well-supported, and every dish is served with a side of excellence. Whether you're supervising student workers, stepping in for faculty, or collaborating with fellow specialists to maintain our high standards, you'll be a vital part of what makes HCAT exceptional. Reporting to the Dean, the part-time Technical Specialist will be responsible for performing various tasks that involve support for culinary classes. The part-time Technical Specialist will also be responsible for scheduling and supervising educational aids, work study students and student workers. May serve as a substitute when the faculty are not available as deemed necessary by the Administration. In addition, the part-time Technical Specialist will work collaboratively with the Senior Technical Specialist and the Technical Specialist/Purchaser to assure complete coverage and professionalism in the HCAT laboratories. The part-time Technical Specialist has supervisory responsibilities with staffing, scheduling, training, teaching, and incorporating proper receiving and storage procedures to the individuals working in part time positions (e.g. student workers).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchasing of Products Purchasing of small and large equipment and food and beverages. Receiving requisitions from Faculty members, posting the orders, and ordering the products Culinary Lab Classes Preparing carts and supplies for culinary lab classes Substituting in the absence of a faculty member Maintenance Ensuring that the equipment is in appropriate working condition. Providing for outside maintenance repairs on equipment when necessary. Scheduling yearly maintenance on the equipment, such as cleaning of the exhaust. Maintaining the HCAT Master Cleaning Schedule. Receiving, Storage and Inventory Accepting and checking in deliveries of food, beverages, and equipment. Counting and posting inventory weekly. Creating and maintaining par stocks. Miscellaneous Duties Conducting tours with prospective HCAT students. Updating MSDS sheets. Assisting with yearly activities and special events.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree in a hospitality or related field Supervisory experience in the food service industry Experience in purchasing, receiving, and ordering of food in hospitality setting Experience with Excel Knowledge of HACCP standards Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time Frequently moves inventory weighing up to 50 pounds Must be ServSafe certified or willing to become certified within three months of hire

Special Information:
This is a 10-month position from September to June with option to work summer session.
Schedule:
Tuesday and Thursday 4pm-10:30pm and Saturday 8am-2:30pm; hours will be adjusted as needed to accommodate campus events. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position. Offers of employment will be conditional based on the successful completion of a background check and verification of official College transcripts.

Salary:
$26.30/per hour At SUNY Schenectady, salary is only one aspect of your compensation package.
