Principle Diagnostics - Bethlehem, PA Position Summary The Molecular Technologist III is a senior-level laboratory professional responsible for performing advanced molecular diagnostic testing with a high degree of technical expertise and independence. This role involves overseeing complex workflows, ensuring quality and compliance with regulatory standards, and serving as a subject matter expert for molecular methodologies. The Molecular Technologist III provides leadership within the lab, mentors junior staff, assists in method validation and implementation of new assays, and contributes to the continuous improvement of laboratory operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Testing & Analysis Perform and interpret complex molecular diagnostic assays (including PCR, real-time PCR, sequencing, and other nucleic acid-based techniques) with precision and accuracy. Troubleshoot technical issues, resolve assay failures, and escalate concerns as appropriate. Review and authorize test results prior to reporting. Quality & Compliance Ensure strict adherence to CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Lead quality assurance and quality control activities, including documentation, proficiency testing, and corrective action processes. Maintain accurate records in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) Leadership & Training Serve as a technical resource and mentor for Molecular Technologists I and II . Train new personnel on laboratory workflows, instrumentation, and molecular assays. Ensure efficient workflow and adherence to turnaround times. Research & Development Collaborate with laboratory leadership on assay validation, verification, and implementation of new molecular tests. Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness. Assist in evaluating new instrumentation, reagents, and technologies. Safety & Equipment Oversee routine and complex maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of molecular laboratory instruments. Ensure laboratory safety protocols and biosafety guidelines are strictly followed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. Current certification as a Molecular Biology Technologist (MB) through ASCP or equivalent strongly preferred. Minimum 5-7 years of experience in a molecular diagnostics laboratory, with progressive responsibility. Strong knowledge of PCR-based methodologies, sequencing platforms, and other molecular diagnostic techniques. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex assays and instrumentation. Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills. Familiarity with laboratory quality systems, regulatory requirements, and LIS platforms.
