Post Doctoral Associate-Torres-Oviedo Lab Bioengineering - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005243) The Department of Bioengineering is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate in the Torres-Oviedo Lab. The candidate selected for this position will be expected to oversee and manage all experimental activities necessary to investigate the hypothesis that mobility serves as a biomarker for the early detection of dementia. Given the complexity and scope of these responsibilities, the ideal candidate will be a postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in biomedical engineering or a closely related discipline. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 1.
Oversight of Training and Consent Procedures:
The candidate will ensure that all training protocols for consenting and assessing the mobility and cognitive function of human participants are thoroughly completed and adhered to by the research team. 2.
Supervision of Data Collection Systems:
The candidate will be proficient in calibrating and supervising the use of specialized laboratory equipment for capturing mobility data, such as gait asymmetry and self-selected walking speed. 3.
Management of Biosignal Acquisition and Analysis:
The candidate will oversee the collection and analysis of biosignals, including muscle activity via electromyography and prefrontal cortex activity using near-infrared spectroscopy. Proficiency in advanced data analytical tools will be required. 4. Contribution to
Scientific Output and Recordkeeping:
The candidate will actively contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts and ensure meticulous maintenance of laboratory records. To fulfill these duties, the postdoctoral fellow will complete all necessary in-person training and participate in scientific discussions related to their findings within the Sensorimotor Learning Laboratory, under the guidance of Dr. Gelsy Torres-Oviedo. This oversight role requires advanced expertise and leadership, making a postdoctoral fellow with relevant experience essential for the successful execution of the project.
