Full Job Description Location:
College Park, MD. On-site work and travel, with occasional remote work.
Type:
Contract, Part-Time, Entry-Level About the Contract Work Poppy is seeking a detail-oriented, technically-minded Field Engineer with a background in engineering, HVAC, mechanical systems, or indoor air quality who enjoys hands-on work, engaging with people, and applying scientific or procedural thinking to real-world environments in buildings, sustainability, and public health. This role is ideal for students looking for hands-on, field experience or for those with flexible availability interested in supplementing other income streams with project-based work. This contractor will be required to visit customer sites in D.C. area. There may also be opportunity to travel to other cities in the United States to support expansion projects at other customer locations. A valid US passport (or other form of travel identification) and willingness to travel would be required. During peak project periods, 25+ hours per week during regular business hours is likely. Between projects, hours are not guaranteed. Evening and weekend availability is a bonus, but most projects take place Monday-Friday. ​ About You You have a background in engineering (students welcome), HVAC, mechanical systems, or indoor air quality and are comfortable following structured field protocols with precision. You're a clear communicator who can represent Poppy professionally when working on-site at customer buildings, and you take pride in thorough, accurate data collection. You thrive working both independently in the field and collaboratively with a remote team. What You'll Do Visit customer buildings to conduct on-site HVAC and ventilation assessments and airflow tests Follow established field protocols for safe, accurate, and consistent data collection across school sites Perform quality checks on Poppy's field measurement devices and assist with basic equipment setup and operation (no IT programming required) Interact with customers and act as a liaison on behalf of Poppy Health Collaborate closely with Poppy's internal team to support smooth project delivery and report on any field observations relevant to projects Attend training sessions and conduct independent trials to ensure accuracy and guarantee success prior to deploying at a customer site What We're Looking For Academic or professional background in HVAC, mechanical engineering, architecture, the built environment or sustainability Previous customer service or client-facing experience Strong time management, communication skills, and attention to detail Comfort following step-by-step procedures and making sound judgments in the field Flexibility and willingness to adapt as needed​ Bonus Points For Valid driver's license & access to a car (not required if ride-share is available) Interest and ability to travel within the U.S. Additional Information Poppy Health is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace.
