SCIENCE SPECIALIST
BIOLOGIST/WETLANDS
ECOLOGIST ABOUT ECOLOGICAL ASSET MANAGEMENT
Ecological Asset Management, LLC (EAM), is seeking a motivated Biologist/Wetlands Ecologist to join our team. Since 2012, EAM has provided environmental consulting and ecological restoration services to private, commercial, and governmental clients throughout the Gulf Coast region. Our principal partners bring more than 50 years of combined experience in environmental consulting and restoration. Headquartered in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, EAM offers opportunities to work on diverse environmental projects while gaining valuable field experience and developing professional skills.
POSITION SUMMARY
As a Science Specialist at EAM, you will support a variety of environmental consulting, ecological research, and restoration projects. The position involves conducting field investigations, collecting and analyzing environmental data, preparing technical reports, and interacting with clients and regulatory agencies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working outdoors. They should have a strong interest in applying scientific knowledge to real-world environmental challenges, with an understanding of the need to balance environmental protection with human activities and associated economic considerations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct wetland delineations in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) criteria. Identify plants and perform botanical assessments, with an emphasis on Gulf Coast and Atlantic Coastal Plain species. Conduct wetland functional and value assessments in accordance with applicable state and federal criteria. Plan and conduct fieldwork primarily in wetland and coastal environments. Collect, download, organize, and analyze environmental data. Prepare technical reports, biological assessments, and environmental permit applications for development and natural resource management projects. Evaluate mitigation options and assist with the development of mitigation plans. Develop and oversee the implementation of sustainable environmental restoration and management plans. Monitor restoration and mitigation projects, as well as permitted activities, for compliance with applicable requirements. Conduct threatened and endangered species surveys and coordinate biological assessments and conservation efforts with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Develop and implement wetland management plans to enhance wildlife and fisheries resources. Provide environmental consulting and advisory services to landowners, real estate developers, investors, and local, state, and federal government representatives. Represent EAM professionally during client meetings, field activities, and interactions with regulatory agencies.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's or master's degree in wetland ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field. Experience with plant identification and taxonomy, preferably involving species found in the Gulf Coast or Atlantic Coastal Plain regions. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues. Ability to manage and complete project assignments on schedule and within budget. Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The following qualifications are beneficial but not required: Experience conducting wetland delineations, preferably in the Gulf Coast region. Experience conducting protected species surveys. Experience monitoring migratory and nesting birds, as well as sea turtles. Proficiency in operating boats, ATVs/UTVs, GPS units, and scientific field-sampling equipment. Experience trailering and transporting boats, ATVs/UTVs, and other field equipment. Experience designing and implementing ecological and hydrological sampling programs. Experience with environmental data collection, management, and analysis. Experience in preparing professional-quality technical reports. Degree or coursework in archaeology or cultural resources management.

WORK SCHEDULE
Monday through Friday Eight-hour shifts Overtime opportunities may be available Primarily in-person work, with remote work permitted only in special circumstances Regular fieldwork, travel, and work in outdoor and coastal environments
