Job Description

Heartland Soil Services Contract Field Technician (Soil Sampler)
Location:
NW Kansas Position Type:
Contract / Seasonal (October - March) VISION Support Heartland Soil Services' mission to deliver accurate, high-quality soil data by executing efficient, reliable field sampling operations across our service regions.
CORE OBJECTIVE
Collect precise soil samples across assigned acres while operating independently, communicating proactively, and maintaining a high standard of execution in the field.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform soil sampling using company-defined processes and standards Operate ATV/4-wheeler safely across varying terrain and field conditions Use iPads and software for mapping, logging, and data collection Travel throughout assigned region and occasionally outside the region Complete multi-day projects requiring overnight stays Communicate daily progress, challenges, and updates proactively Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion of all sampling work
EXPECTATIONS
Accurate, consistent soil data collection across all assigned acres Strong, proactive communication from the field Reliable execution with minimal supervision High productivity and efficiency in varying conditions Ownership mindset with strong work ethic and accountability
REQUIREMENTS
Must own (or have access to): ATV / 4-wheeler Pickup truck (required to start) Willingness to travel extensively, including: Overnight stays Occasional out-of-state work Ability to work long hours outdoors in all weather conditions Comfortable working alone for extended periods Tech-savvy (iPads, mapping tools, software systems) Strong communication skills and self-motivation
EQUIPMENT & VEHICLE POLICY
Contractors are required to provide their own pickup truck initially Mileage reimbursement is provided for use of personal vehicles Opportunity to transition to a company-provided pickup after a preliminary period based on performance, reliability, and trust
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Part-time employed, self-employed, or has a flexible schedule High availability during peak season ( October - March ) Comfortable with a travel-heavy role and time away from home Enjoys independent, outdoor work Motivated by performance-based compensation
SCHEDULE & WORKLOAD
Primarily weekday work (target: 5 days/week) Some weekends required during peak workload periods Hours and workload vary based on season and weather
COMPENSATION
Base hourly rate (discussed upon inquiry) Performance incentive: Acre-based bonus structure Higher productivity = higher earnings
REALITY CHECK
This role involves significant travel and time away from home . Multi-day trips, overnight stays, and long hours in the field are a core part of the job.
