Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Associate — NMR Spectroscopy and Structural Biology Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology & Biochemistry /
Brown University Principal Investigator:
Nicolas Fawzi Location:
Providence, Rhode Island Position Summary The Fawzi Laboratory in the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology and Bi9chemistry (MCB) at Brown University invites applications for a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to develop and apply advanced nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy approaches to investigate the structure, dynamics, and molecular mechanisms of biologically important proteins and protein assemblies. The successful candidate will use solution NMR and related biophysical and biochemical approaches to address fundamental questions in structural biology, molecular interactions, and disease biology. The position offers an opportunity to develop expertise in cutting-edge NMR methodology while applying these techniques to challenging biological systems. Research Responsibilities The postdoctoral researcher will: Design and conduct NMR spectroscopy experiments to characterize protein structure, motions, and molecular interactions. Apply multidimensional heteronuclear NMR techniques, including backbone and side-chain resonance assignments and structural characterization. Develop and optimize NMR experiments for challenging, intrinsically disordered, dynamic, or heterogeneous protein systems. Use NMR relaxation, chemical-shift perturbation, paramagnetic effects, and other approaches to characterize protein dynamics and molecular interactions. Integrate NMR measurements with complementary biophysical and biochemical methods. Analyze and interpret multidimensional NMR datasets using appropriate computational and structural-biology approaches. Contribute to development of new experimental or computational approaches for studying protein conformational dynamics. Present research at laboratory meetings, conferences, and seminars and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals. Collaborate with researchers within the Fawzi laboratory and across Brown University and external institutions. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students as appropriate. The Fawzi laboratory provides an interdisciplinary environment at the interface of NMR spectroscopy, structural biology, biophysics, and molecular biology. The postdoctoral researcher will have access to modern NMR instrumentation and opportunities to interact with researchers across Brown's biomedical and physical-science communities. The position is particularly well suited for a scientist interested in using NMR not simply as a characterization tool, but as a quantitative approach to understand how biomolecular structure and interactions give rise to biological function, and how these are disrupted in disease.
Applicants should have:
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, molecular biology, or a closely related field. Strong research experience in, or evidence of high interest and ability to learn, NMR spectroscopy, preferably biological solution-state NMR. Experience with protein expression, purification, and biochemical characterization. Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills. A demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and communicate scientific results effectively. A strong record of research productivity appropriate to career stage. Experience in one or more of the following areas is particularly desirable: Familiarity with multidimensional NMR data acquisition and analysis. Intrinsically disordered proteins and protein dynamics NMR relaxation measurements to assess molecular motions and interaction kinetics Protein?protein or protein?

RNA interactions Biomolecular condensates or heterogeneous protein assemblies Advanced NMR pulse sequences and methodology Computational structural biology or molecular simulations Integrative structural biology Programming for NMR data analysis or methodological development Research Environment In order to be eligible for consideration, applicants should submit the following materials via
Interfolio:
Curriculum vitae Cover letter describing research interests and relevant experience Statement of research interests and future goals Contact information for three references Candidates should address how they would contribute to the research and/or teaching missions of our diverse and inclusive university community. Applicants must have completed all requirements for a doctoral degree before start of the position. Salary will be based on Brown?s minimum pay scale and is commensurate with experience. Application review will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled or the search is closed. For this position, Brown does not sponsor the H-1B visa classification to scholars who need immigration sponsorship in order to enter the U.S. and commence lawful employment under the terms of their appointment.
