Position Overview We are seeking an experienced laboratory professional to support the Genetic Sequencing Branch - Wastewater Surveillance Program . This position performs highly complex and specialized laboratory work involving specimen preparation, molecular testing, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), data analysis, quality control, and laboratory reporting. The position works under the general supervision of the Genetic Sequencing Branch Manager and technical guidance of the Microbial Genomics Team Lead. The ideal candidate will have strong microbiology and molecular laboratory experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while following established laboratory protocols. Key Responsibilities Receive, handle, prepare, and coordinate highly specialized laboratory specimens. Process

positive wastewater specimens and Mycobacterium tuberculosis samples for Next Generation Sequencing. Perform sample preparation and molecular laboratory testing according to established procedures. Conduct Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) testing and related laboratory activities. Analyze laboratory data and prepare data visualizations. Enter and maintain testing results within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) . Perform and document laboratory quality control and quality assurance activities. Review testing results and outgoing reports for accuracy and completeness. Organize, store, and properly dispose of residual laboratory specimens. Perform routine laboratory instrument maintenance. Follow laboratory safety, biosafety, aseptic technique, and specimen-handling requirements. Troubleshoot laboratory issues and determine appropriate corrective actions. Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation. Assist with technical training of employees and personnel from other laboratories. Work independently while collaborating effectively with laboratory and scientific teams. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of microbiology principles and laboratory practices . Knowledge of molecular biology techniques and molecular testing procedures. Experience with laboratory safety, aseptic technique, and handling pathogenic organisms. Knowledge or experience with Next Generation Sequencing preferred. Ability to follow detailed laboratory procedures and standard operating procedures accurately. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain concentration for extended periods. Ability to prioritize assignments and manage multiple laboratory activities efficiently. Experience maintaining accurate scientific and laboratory documentation. Ability to identify problems, evaluate situations, and determine appropriate actions. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, database analysis, data visualization, and results reporting. Ability to safely and accurately operate standard laboratory equipment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment. Ability to train and provide technical guidance to other employees.
