Role:
We are a fast-growing deep-tech semiconductor startup building wafer-scale 2D materials. We run our own growth, transfer, and characterization lab, build our own equipment, and are building out an R D cleanroom. We are looking for a junior Technical Operations Manager to keep the lab running: consumables and gas supply, equipment uptime and service, safety and compliance records, and the day-to-day coordination between engineers, vendors, and contractors. This is a hands-on role for someone with a technical degree who is organized, proactive, and wants to grow into running operations for a semiconductor company. Recent graduates with lab experience are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities Lab Supply:
Track and reorder consumables, chemicals, gases, and spare parts; manage gas cylinder deliveries, exchanges, and storage
Equipment Uptime:
Maintain the equipment inventory, preventive maintenance schedule, and service records; coordinate vendor service calls and repairs
Facilities Coordination:
Schedule and supervise contractors for cleanroom buildout, equipment installation, and facility hookups (power, exhaust, gas, water)
EHS & Compliance:
Maintain SDS library, chemical and gas inventories, safety training records, PPE supply, and inspection documentation; support hazmat, fire, and Cal/OSHA compliance with engineering
Purchasing Support:
Process purchase requests, POs, and invoices with the Technical Associate and finance; track spend against budget
Receiving & Inventory:
Set up and run receiving, inspection, labeling, and inventory tracking for parts and materials
Lab Organization:
Keep lab and workshop spaces organized, labeled, and audit-ready; own lab SOPs and checklists
Coordination:
Run the weekly operations checklist; keep engineers informed on deliveries, service visits, and facility work
Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
Lab Experience:
Hands-on experience in a research, university, or industrial lab (coursework, research, internship, or work)
Organization:
Highly organized and self-directed; comfortable owning many parallel tasks and following through without reminders
Safety Mindset:
Understanding of lab safety, chemical handling, and PPE; willingness to learn hazardous gas and cleanroom protocols
Communication:
Clear written and verbal English; comfortable coordinating with engineers, vendors, and contractors
Tools:
Proficient with spreadsheets and documentation; able to set up simple tracking systems Must have valid right to work in the US Nice to Have Experience as a lab manager, lab coordinator, or operations assistant Cleanroom or semiconductor lab experience Familiarity with hazardous gas systems, vacuum equipment, or
