Overview Element has an opportunity for a Chemist to safely perform work in accordance with established SOP and QA procedures conducting testing within the laboratory. Element Detroit Wixom is a full-service metallurgical and materials testing laboratory supporting the automotive, aerospace, defense, and industrial sectors. The laboratory provides extensive expertise in mechanical testing, fatigue testing, metallurgical evaluations, chemical analysis, corrosion testing, and advanced failure analysis. Responsibilities Primary responsible for preparing and analyze metal samples utilizing: OES (Optical Emission Spectroscopy), Leco

C/S/N/O/H

(Combustion), and ICP (Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy)

Also conduct technical cleanliness testing, density and coating weight testing

Maintain related test equipment, tools and machinery in good working condition

Summarizes test results using basic mathematical calculations and data reductions

Testing is conducted on many alloys including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium and copper Skills / Qualifications BS or AS in Chemistry is required

1-2 years in the TIC sector is preferred, but not required

Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, standard operating procedures, and national and international testing specifications

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

Proficiency in Microsoft Applications

Ability to remain calm when faced with pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
