Job Description

We are looking for a skilled residential Generator Technician who possesses practical expertise in working with standby and rental power equipment. Your primary focus will be the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of various generator systems, spanning from residential setups to complex industrial machinery. Operating autonomously in the field, you will be responsible for managing your daily schedule and ensuring that our clients receive top-tier service for their critical power needs. Core Duties Execute routine maintenance, system diagnostics, and necessary repairs on all generator equipment. Utilize electrical schematics to identify and resolve complex wiring faults. Perform comprehensive engine analysis on both diesel and natural gas power plants. Verify the functionality of control systems and automatic transfer switches (ATS). Ensure all service documentation is accurate and submitted in a professional manner. Help foster positive client relationships by providing clear explanations of service findings and suggested improvements. Maintain high levels of operational efficiency and professional standards while working independently. Ensure your assigned service vehicle remains organized and in excellent working condition. Required Skills and Experience A minimum of 2 to 3 years of direct experience servicing rental and standby generator sets. Proven proficiency working with diesel and natural gas engine platforms. Demonstrated ability to interpret wiring diagrams and execute logical troubleshooting processes. Primary background in 20-150 kW residential or light commercial units, with additional experience in larger 200-500 kW or 1 MW+ industrial systems being a significant asset. Must have practical experience with Kohler and Cummins equipment; familiarity with brands like Generac, CAT, or MTU is advantageous. Solid understanding of various fuel systems, specifically natural gas, with diesel or bi-fuel knowledge being a plus. Familiarity with current Tier 4 emissions standards is preferred. Strong analytical capabilities to perform effective root cause identification. Ability to travel within a one-hour radius and maintain a clean driving record. Professional attitude with a strong commitment to clear communication and customer satisfaction.
