Our proprietary logic-gated platform, Tmod™, is designed to impart specificity to immune cells for selective depletion of dysfunctional cell types. In oncology, this means the killing of tumor cells while sparing normal cells and healthy tissues. In immunology indications, it involves eliminating pathological cells while protecting other critical cell populations. Essentially, Tmod™ is a robust, modular platform to engineer immune cells that enables precise targeting of antigen profiles, rather than single antigens. Position Summary At A2 Bio, our team is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of science to transform medicine and turn the tide on serious illness. Central to achieving this mission is our focus on recruiting the best talent and building an environment that enables our team to do the best work of their careers and make an impact on patients and society at large. We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative senior scientist with experience in targeted lipid nanoparticle (tLNP)-based in vivo CAR development including encapsulation, conjugation, characterization, etc. Broader experience in materials science, immunology, mouse biology, or bioengineering is a plus. The successful candidate will join the Adaptive Innovation group at our research facility in Agoura Hills, CA and work in a dynamic and fast-paced cross-functional team. This is a hands-on, lab-based role with significant ownership across the development lifecycle—from early research through IND-enabling activities and scale-up. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Work with our scientists to design and optimize targeted mRNA-LNP systems and processes for desired in vitro and in vivo performance; evaluate particle characteristics, including optimization of encapsulation efficiency, stability, release characteristics, and biological performance Contribute to the design and development of in-vivo models to study LNP-specific effects Lead the analytical method development and optimization for targeted LNP characterization, defining analytical strategy and guiding cross-functional decision-making; analytical methods include but are not limited to DLS, fluorescence-based and/or HPLC-based assays Collaborate to select, profile and advance lead candidates in a scientifically rigorous manner Document experimental workflows, results, and deviations in electronic laboratory notebooks to ensure reproducibility and process understanding Perform data analysis and communicate findings clearly to enable informed decision‑making by research and development teams Support development of scalable, GMP-compatible manufacturing processes to advance lead tLNP programs; process development experience a plus Support technology transfer documentation between A2 Bio teams and CDMO partners IND-enabling documentation and CMC experience a plus Excellent verbal and written communication skills Stay current on the state of the immunotherapy field, and participate and present in internal and external scientific meetings as necessary Required Qualifications and Experience PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Immunology or a related discipline with 4+ years of relevant laboratory experience (industry experience preferred); or MS with 6+ years experience; or BS with 10+ years of experience In addition to demonstrated expertise with targeted mRNA-LNP formulations, must have hands-on laboratory experience with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry and multiple immunological techniques; experience with rodent or monkey in vivo models is ideal Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to thrive in a cross-functional collaborative environment Highly detail-oriented, organized and able to multitask around various projects and deadlines Highly motivated, innovative team player with demonstrated ability and desire to learn, willingness to be flexible and eagerness to deliver results with urgency Demonstrated ability to independently design experiments, interpret complex datasets, and influence scientific direction; experience providing technical guidance to junior team members is a plus Benefits include: Competitive base salary and annual incentive opportunities Equity participation Medical, dental and vision benefits Life, disability and accident coverage Health and wellness programs Paid time off and holidays Flexible work arrangements Environment where professional development is actively encouraged and supported.
