The Human Relevant Models - Applications Scientist is responsible for executing robust biological application and validation studies using organoid and other human‑relevant model systems, with a strong focus on reproducibility, process discipline, and quality. The role applies a manufacturing‑ and quality‑oriented mindset to experimental execution, ensuring data, workflows, and documentation are reliable, scalable, and fit for intended use This position reports to the Manager - Science and Validation and is part of the Product Innovation and Strategy Team located in San Jose, California and will be an on-site role. In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Execute application and validation studies for human‑relevant models Design, run, and deliver high‑quality experimental work using organoids and advanced cell models to support product validation, workflow verification, and defined project milestones. Develop, qualify, and characterize organoid and complex cell models Establish, optimize, and characterize organoid and human‑relevant model systems to ensure robustness, reproducibility, and fitness for validation and workflow use. Analyze, interpret, and communicate scientific data Document, analyze, and interpret experimental data; prepare clear technical summaries, figures, and reports for internal review and decision‑making, and for external stakeholders where required. Maintain quality, compliance, and documentation standards Ensure experimental, validation, and project documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with applicable quality, safety, and regulatory expectations; actively contribute to raising scientific and quality standards. Identify risks, troubleshoot issues, and improve workflows Proactively identify technical and experimental risks, troubleshoot issues as they arise, implement mitigation strategies, and contribute to continuous improvement of organoid and human‑relevant model workflows. The essential requirements of the job include: Qualifications in a relevant life‑science discipline PhD in biomedical sciences or a related scientific field or a BSc in a biomedical or related discipline with 2+ years of relevant industry experience. Strong hands‑on experience in mammalian cell biology Significant practical experience with mammalian cell culture techniques is essential, with experience in complex models such as complex cell cultures, stem cells or organoids critical. Ability to independently plan and execute experimental work Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, and execute experiments independently, delivering high‑quality scientific outputs to defined milestones and timelines. Proven data analysis, documentation, and reporting capability Experience documenting, collating, analyzing, and interpreting experimental data, with strong record‑keeping and the ability to communicate results clearly to internal and external stakeholders. Experience working with quality, compliance, and experimental discipline Experience maintaining accurate documentation and working to defined quality and safety standards.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
Occasional travel may be required to support project needs, including visits to other Molecular Devices sites, customer or collaborator locations, and attendance at scientific meetings or conferences. No routine driving or company vehicle use is expected. This role is primarily laboratory‑ and desk‑based . Ability to work for extended periods in a laboratory environment, including: Standing for prolonged periods Manual handling of laboratory equipment and consumables Must be able to work safely in accordance with health, safety, and biosafety procedures at all times. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in: Experience in regulated or GxP‑aligned environment. Experience working in milestone‑driven, project‑based scientific environments Prior experience delivering scientific work against defined project plans, timelines, and technical milestones. The annual salary range for this role is $83,000 - $120,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay. We offer comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees.
