This position is located within the Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey, Rocky Mountain Region, Central Energy Resources Science Center, Lakewood, Colorado.

Salary :

GS-12: $99,800 (Step 01) to $129,742 (Step 10).

Qualifications:

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 09/18/2026 unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. Basic Educational Requirements:

In addition to the specialized experience requirements for this position, you must meet at least one of the following: A.

Degree :

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics. Combination of education and experience:

course work as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering), including at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent of physics, plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. ) To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level:

Experience :

To qualify, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: The ideal candidate has experience working in an oil and gas testing laboratory operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers and gas chromatographs. Other necessary specialized experience includes analyzing samples under a quality management system and inputting data into a laboratory information management system. You must include hours per week worked.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
