WHY DO WE NEED YOU?
As a Sr. Research Chemist I, reporting to the Global Innovation & Analytical Director, you will play a critical role in advancing Saint-Gobain Construction Chemicals' materials innovation and technical leadership through the characterization, development, and analysis of polymer-based materials. This position combines scientific expertise with practical problem-solving to generate insights that support new product development, manufacturing optimization, product quality, and competitive differentiation. This position will be initially located in Wilmington, MA and future location in Northboro, MA.Key responsibilities include:
Lead the characterization of polymeric materials using advanced analytical techniques, with a particular emphasis on establishing and expanding NMR expertise for polycarboxylate chemistries. Develop, validate, and apply analytical methods to support innovation, product development, and technical problem-solving Conduct reverse engineering, benchmarking, and competitive product evaluations to support strategic business decisions and innovation programs. Communicate complex technical findings through reports, presentations, and technical reviews to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Serve as a technical expert in polymer characterization, applying strong analytical thinking, project leadership, collaboration, and scientific judgment to solve complex materials challenges. The ideal candidate is a scientifically driven and highly collaborative professional with expertise in polymer characterization, analytical chemistry, and materials development. This role requires a strong foundation in polymer science, and experience with advanced analytical techniques.Education Requirements:
Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Polymer Chemistry, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or Analytical Chemistry; or Master's Degree in one of the above disciplines with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's Degree in one of the above disciplines with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.Experience:
Required experience in the field of polymer characterization and analytical testing, including advanced techniques such as NMR, GPC/SEC, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, DSC, TGA, and related methods. Preferred expertise in establishing, developing, and applying NMR methodologies. Preferred experience supporting R D, product development, manufacturing, quality, and customer-focused technical projects. Proven ability to interpret complex analytical data and apply findings to solve technical and business challenges. Interpersonal & Leadership Skills Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information to diverse audiences. Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams, including R D, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, supply chain, and commercial functions. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to independently investigate and resolve complex technical challenges. Ability to build productive working relationships and contribute effectively within a matrix organization. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to work in a laboratory environment and safely operate analytical instrumentation. Frequent use of computers, laboratory equipment, and presentation tools. Ability to work in environments requiring appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to laboratory safety procedures. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees' wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $92,000 to $142,000 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 12% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $103,040.00 to $159,040.00. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.A LITTLE MORE ABOUT US
