At Saint-Gobain, our purpose is to make the world a better home. We are seeking a Sr. Research Engineer I to join our Commercial Building & Infrastructure R D team and help drive innovation in advanced construction materials and waterproofing technologies. In this role, you will contribute to the development of next-generation products that improve building performance, sustainability, durability, and customer value. Reporting to the Principal Scientist, you will work closely with global research teams, manufacturing, marketing, sales, technical service, customers, and suppliers to advance new technologies from concept through commercialization. This is an excellent opportunity for a scientist or engineer who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, solving complex technical challenges, and bringing innovative solutions to market. This position will be initially located in Wilmington, MA and future location is Northboro, MA.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead research and development projects focused on new product development and product improvement Design, execute, and analyze laboratory and field experiments to evaluate material performance and identify new opportunities Develop innovative formulations, technologies, and testing methodologies to support business growth Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Marketing, Sales, Technical Service, and Operations Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders Participate in customer meetings, field trials, product launches, and technical training activities Validate new test methods and ensure laboratory equipment and procedures are properly maintained Drive innovation through creative problem-solving, scientific rigor, and continuous improvement initiatives Contribute to intellectual property development, including patent generation and protection activities
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field with 7+ years of relevant experience; Or Master's Degree in a related technical field with 3+ years of relevant experience; Or Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (preferred)
Required Experience & Skills:
Experience working in an industrial research, product development, or laboratory environment Demonstrated success in new product development and technical problem-solving Experience researching, developing, or evaluating polymer-based materials Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and data interpretation skills. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Experience in construction materials, water proofing, adhesives, coatings, sealants, building envelope products, or building science (preferred) Knowledge of laboratory safety practices, HSE systems, and 5S methodologies (preferred)
Additional Requirements:
Ability to travel up to 20% for customer visits, field trials, manufacturing support, conferences, and technical meetings Valid driver's license required for business travel

Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees' wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $92,000 to $142,000 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 12% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $103,040.00 to $159,040.00. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
