The Chemist I supports laboratory operations by performing sample preparation, extraction, and general bench chemistry activities in accordance with established methods and SOPs. This role is responsible for producing accurate and timely analytical work while supporting equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, quality control, and continuous improvement efforts within the laboratory. Responsibilities Perform routine sample preparation and extraction according to documented methods and SOPs. Conduct techniques including blending, shaking, Soxhlet extraction, digestion, SPE, distillation/condensation, liquid-liquid partitioning, and chemical derivatization. Prepare and document reagents and analytical working standards. Operate laboratory equipment such as blenders, nitrogen and rotary evaporators, shakers, pH meters, centrifuges, balances, vacuum pumps, water baths, freezers, and pipettes. Complete required extraction-related quality control checks and documentation. Enter observational results into LIMS when required, including BRIX dilutions, moisture, and pH. Troubleshoot extraction procedures, difficult sample matrices, contamination issues, and general laboratory equipment problems. Perform or coordinate equipment maintenance, verification, and calibration as appropriate. Report equipment problems, procedural deviations, and unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor or management. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment. Assist with the development and revision of SOPs and other controlled documents. Support preparation of reference calibration standards as needed. Assist with R&D projects, extraction work, and other bench activities. Identify and implement opportunities to improve extraction quality, method performance, turnaround time, or cost. Assist with sample preparation, glassware/labware cleaning, and general laboratory support. May assist with training employees on specific laboratory tasks based on experience. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with sample preparation, extraction, and general bench chemistry techniques. Experience using and maintaining common laboratory support equipment. Some related laboratory experience or training. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat. Preferred Experience Experience with LC, GC, or inorganic analytical instrumentation. Experience working within an international business environment.
