Description :
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Houston (UH) invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in synthetic organic chemistry at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. While candidates from all areas of organic chemistry will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants who will establish an innovative, internationally recognized research program that addresses critical challenges in drug discovery and human health through the application of modern synthetic chemistry. Areas of research interest include, but are not limited to, the development of new synthetic methodologies, the design and synthesis of novel therapeutics, and investigations of drug interactions and disease mechanisms. Candidates whose research complements existing strengths at UH and across Texas, particularly in cancer and dementia, are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will establish an externally funded experimental research program, teach undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses, mentor students and researchers, and contribute to university service. This appointment is in Chemistry but is intended to support interdisciplinary research that leverages expertise and resources across multiple departments and colleges at the University of Houston. New faculty hires will have opportunities to collaborate with investigators affiliated with the UH Drug Discovery Institute, College of Pharmacy, the Multidisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience and Dementia, and other research centers. Applicants must have a PhD in Chemistry and postdoctoral or equivalent industrial or national-laboratory research experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong research accomplishments and the potential to perform independent, high-impact research. Application Instructions Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a one-page statement of teaching philosophy. Candidates applying for appointment at the Assistant Professor level should arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted and provide a research statement of no more than five pages describing their future research plans. Candidates applying for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level should submit a one-page summary of their current research program, highlighting major accomplishments, ongoing activities, and current funding support. Review of applications will begin on 10/9/2026 and will continue until the position is filled. Employees are expected to have a home address in the state of Texas for the duration of their appointments. Official transcripts are required for a faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidates. All positions at the University of Houston-System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Individuals conducting research in critical infrastructure areas (i.e., communication infrastructure systems, cybersecurity systems, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment systems, and/or water treatment facilities) are subject to regular review to ensure the security and integrity of the research is maintained. The University of Houston System and its universities are Equal Opportunity Institutions. Everyone is encouraged to apply.
