Job Description
The Chemist is responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or chemical experiments in the laboratory for quality or process control or to develop new products or knowledge related to hair care.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Development of new hair care products Maintain and develop new methods for existing hair care products Interface with various departments within organization Analyze organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, and reactions, utilizing chromatography, spectroscopy, and spectrophotometry techniques. Maintain laboratory instruments to ensure proper working order and troubleshoot malfunctions when needed. Develop, improve, and customize products, equipment, formulas, processes, and analytical methods. Conduct quality control tests. Coordinate and advise laboratory personnel in test procedures for analyzing components and physical properties of materials. Prepare test solutions, compounds, and reagents for laboratory personnel to conduct test. Compile and analyze test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions. Write technical papers and reports and prepare standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, or tests. Induce changes in composition of substances by introducing heat, light, energy, and chemical catalysts for quantitative and qualitative analysis. Preparation of lab and pilot batches for new products. Maintain lab records on daily batches and test results. Perform accelerated stability tests on batches and keep records. Calibration of lab equipment and its maintenance. Assist in trouble shooting production batches. Reports to R D in-charge and help with formulation of new products and re-formulation of existing products. Maintain a clean work bench and wash glass ware every day. Refill chemicals and order new chemicals from vendors. Update samples inventory. Learn formulations for hair care products. Learn and comply with lab safety, chemical safety and handling, regulatory requirements of cosmetic products and chemicals.Education & Experience:
Degree in Chemistry (or related science field) or equivalent years of experience required. 5+ years of laboratory experience. 3+ years of experience in hair care development Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.Skills & Abilities:
