This full-time position is designed for recent college graduates seeking dedicated research experience prior to pursuing careers in medicine, physician assistant studies, nursing, public health, biomedical research, or other health professions. This opportunity is ideal for individuals taking a gap year or multiple gap years before professional school and seeking immersive experience in academic medicine. The fellow will work closely with neurosurgeons, physician-scientists, medical students, residents, and research staff to support clinical and translational research studies focused on cerebrovascular disease, stroke, and brain aneurysms. The position provides exposure to patient-oriented research, biospecimen collection and processing, clinical data management, translational laboratory studies, and scientific scholarship. Successful candidates will gain experience in human subjects research, clinical research operations, and the development of peer-reviewed publications. A minimum two-year commitment is expected to ensure continuity of ongoing research projects and provide opportunities for meaningful scholarly contributions.

Responsibilities Responsibilities may include:

Supporting clinical and translational research studies Assisting with patient recruitment, enrollment, and longitudinal follow-up Collecting, processing, and managing clinical data and biospecimens Supporting laboratory and biorepository operations Maintaining research databases, study records, and regulatory documentation Collaborating with physicians, medical students, residents, and research personnel on ongoing projects Assisting with literature reviews, data analysis, abstracts, and scientific manuscripts Participating in research meetings, educational conferences, and scholarly activities Performing additional research-related duties as assigned Professional Development Opportunities Successful candidates will have opportunities to: Attend weekly research meetings and multidisciplinary conferences Participate in clinical and translational research projects Gain exposure to academic neurosurgery and physician-scientist career pathways Assist with abstract and manuscript preparation Present research at regional and national scientific meetings Earn authorship on peer-reviewed publications based on scholarly contributions Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree completed prior to employment in Biology, Neuroscience, Health Sciences, Public Health, Psychology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field Interest in pursuing medicine, physician assistant studies, nursing, public health, or biomedical research Ability to commit to full-time employment for a minimum of two years Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Preferred Prior experience in clinical research, specimen processing, or molecular laboratory techniques (e.g., PCR/qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, or related methods) Familiarity with human subjects research, REDCap, or electronic medical records Experience with biospecimen handling, phlebotomy, or laboratory procedures
