Job Description

Clinical Research Assistant needed for federally funded clinical research programs at the Syracuse VA Medical Center focused on alcohol use disorder treatment. We are hiring for up to two full-time positions to support the following studies: Evaluating Implementation and Effectiveness of Alcohol Use Disorder Care Management in Primary Care (ACM): a NIAAA-funded hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial testing a primary care based alcohol pharmacotherapy and care management model for Veterans with alcohol use disorder. A Brief, Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Unhealthy Alcohol Use in
Primary Care Behavioral Health:
a Department of Defense funded study focused on adapting and evaluating a cognitive behavioral intervention designed for active duty military service members with unhealthy alcohol use in primary care. Primary duties include recruiting, screening, consenting, and tracking study participants; conducting structured clinical research assessments with Veterans and/or active duty service members; scheduling and completing follow-up contacts; maintaining accurate study records; coordinating assigned study procedures with primary care clinics and research staff; entering and reviewing research data; and assisting with regulatory, IRB, and reporting activities. Additional duties may include supporting electronic medical record-based data pulls and other data-management activities in coordination with the study data team. The Clinical Research Assistant will conduct assigned activities in accordance with study protocols, standard operating procedures, VA policies, and applicable human-subjects and privacy requirements. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in psychology, health science, public health, social science, or a closely related field. Prior clinical research experience in an academic, medical, or community setting is preferred. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal, written communication, organizational, and computer skills; the ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records; and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Experience conducting structured research assessments, recruiting and retaining research participants, working with electronic health records or research databases, and interacting with Veteran and/or military populations or individuals with substance use histories is preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology, Good Clinical Practice principles, human-subjects protections, and IRB/regulatory processes is also preferred. The selected candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality and complete required VA and research compliance trainings.
