JOB SUMMARY
ABR, Inc. is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist with expertise in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licensing, and biological resource permitting. In this role, you will join our team of biology and ecology experts to lead environmental assessments, manage project teams, and develop and implement permitting strategies. This position may be based in our Anchorage or Fairbanks, AK offices or remote.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead NEPA Documentation :
Write and edit core sections of NEPA documents, including purpose and need, affected environment, alternatives analysis, environmental consequences, and cumulative effects.
Apply Regulatory Expertise :
Employ a solid working knowledge of agency-specific guidelines and associated methods of environmental impact assessment under NEPA, including climate change and cumulative effects.
Manage Stakeholders :
Communicate directly with project proponents, prime and subcontractors, state and federal resource management agencies, and other stakeholders.
Public Engagement :
Lead and participate in agency and public scoping meetings, including giving presentations.
Team Leadership :
Manage internal and external teams of subject matter experts and technical analysts working on NEPA projects.
Support Fieldwork :
Assist with development and implementation of environmental field studies and related permitting.
Business Development :
Contribute to the preparation of proposals for environmental assessment work and expand our client base by keeping informed on new projects in Alaska.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience :
At least 7 years of professional experience managing or working on NEPA, FERC, or similar environmental compliance projects. Additional experience permitting under the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and related state regulations. Experience supporting industrial clients in Alaska is preferred.
Technical Background :
Experience as a NEPA technical analyst in wildlife biology, fisheries, vegetation, wetlands, or endangered species.
Education :
Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
Skills :
Strong leadership, negotiation, and communication skills; highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to see the big picture while working collaboratively.
