Job Description

The Delaware County Solid Waste Authority (DCSWA) is hiring a full-time Environmental Specialist at the Rolling Hills Landfill in Boyertown, PA. In this role, your work will directly shape the operations of the DCSWA landfill, and its impact on the surrounding communities. You will regularly perform inspections, collect and analyze samples, and provide crucial data to organization leadership. This position operates with a lot of autonomy, with plenty of opportunity for collaboration with your direct manager. This is a great opportunity for professionals looking to get out in the field, or recent graduates who are still building their experience in the industry. This is a day shift, full-time position, with the possibility of OT. 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, M-F.
Responsibilities:
Collect environmental samples for regulatory and operational purposes Monitor landfill gas wells, groundwater monitoring wells, pump stations, tanks, flow meters, erosion and sedimentation controls, radiation monitoring alarms, and other environmental infrastructure Perform routine inspections of facility construction projects and communicate deficiencies to appropriate personnel Support compliance with NPDES, landfill closure, and other applicable environmental requirements Maintain accurate environmental monitoring and compliance records. Perform minor field repairs and equipment maintenance as necessary Coordinate with contractors, consultants, regulatory agencies, neighboring property owners, and members of the public as appropriate Support environmental compliance activities at DCSWA satellite facilities, including transfer stations Prepare written correspondence, reports, and other documentation related to environmental compliance and facility activities Assist operations personnel with nuisance, traffic control, and other facility compliance plans
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered. Previous environmental, laboratory, regulatory, or field experience is preferred Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized environmental, database, GIS, or monitoring software Ability to operate and maintain environmental monitoring and field equipment Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
Valid PA Driver's License Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Work is completed both indoors and outdoors. DCSWA provides uniforms and PPE. Occasionally lift, pull, drag and carry up to 50 lbs Endure physical demands of the position, including climbing ladders, working at heights up to 60 feet, long periods of standing and walking, and repetitive arm and hand movements Working in cramped areas and contorted positions as needed All DCSWA employees are employed at-will.
