An Environmental Technician assists with testing and sampling or monitoring needed for environmental clean-up efforts or projects to mitigate environmental pollution. Assists environmental engineers or environmental scientists. Collects air, water or soil samples, operates field test equipment and conducts laboratory research. Coordinates work at sites with contaminated soil or water, or hazardous waste clean-up sites.

Job Description

Perform entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision. This internship is with the Parks and Recreation Department. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours a week. The internship begins in September Assist with eSports program Assist with Coding Robots Program Maintenance of the facility is expected Enforces rules and regulations; maintains safeguards against accidents and instructs children in safe use of equipment. Instructs individuals and groups in recreational activities; maintains discipline in recreational areas. Handles related paperwork such as attendance records and requisitioning supplies. Participates in staff meetings Able to work nights and weekends
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform related work as required Enrollment in or recent graduation from a degree seeking program in an accredited college or university in eSports, Gaming, Computer Science, or a related field.
Required:
A Resumé is required for consideration for this position. Working knowledge of eSports, gaming, block coding, S.T.E.M. programming Experience with working with children ages 5-17 preferred Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co- workers, other City employees and the general public Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (e.g. written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination).
