at EMSL Analytical Inc. in South Portland, Maine, United States Job Description EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos/Microbiology) in South Portland, ME. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control procedures Determination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos material Microbiological sample preparation and analysis for air, direct, sewage screens and food microbiology samples Receive environmental samples and enter data from Chain of Custody forms into LIMS system Make sure all samples are placed into proper storage for analysis Generate analytical reports and enter data into the LIMS system Handle inventory and record keeping Assist with customer service client questions via phone, email and in person Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Geology or closely related science required Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship Light microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training a plus Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus One to two years of asbestos
PLM / TEM / PCM
experience is a plus, but not required Candidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis Ability to work independently and with a team prioritize work and manage time to meet deadlines Effective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Available Shift:
Position is full time, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of South Portland, ME are encouraged to applyEMSL offers full time benefits: medical, dental, 401(k), voluntary benefits, paid time off, holiday pay and a flexible spending account.
