Job Description

at EMSL Analytical Inc. in South Portland, Maine, United States Job Description EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst (Asbestos/Microbiology) in South Portland, ME. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Preparation and analysis of bulk and solid materials for asbestos content using PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) PCM (Phase Contrast Microscopy), and all ancillary quality control proceduresDetermination of visual percentage and optical properties of asbestos and non-asbestos materialMicrobiological sample preparation and analysis for air, direct, sewage screens and food microbiology samples Receive environmental samples and enter data from Chain of Custody forms into LIMS systemMake sure all samples are placed into proper storage for analysisGenerate analytical reports and enter data into the LIMS system Handle inventory and record keepingAssist with customer service client questions via phone, email and in personClean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manualOther responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Geology or closely related science required Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorshipLight microscopy, optical mineralogy/petrographic microscope training a plusSome laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plusOne to two years of asbestos
PLM / TEM / PCM
experience is a plus, but not requiredCandidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform analysisAbility to work independently and with a teamprioritize work and manage time to meet deadlinesEffective time management, organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Available Shift:
Position is full time, Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
