The Infection Control Preventionist (ICP) participates in conducting and coordinating the infection control activities within the hospital. The ICP acts as a resource to and a liaison between patient care units, support services, medical staff, Infection Control Committee, Microbiology Lab, Hospital Administration, Network hospitals, and Public Health Departments. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conducts facility wide surveillance, analysis a nd reporting of Hospital Acquired infections (HAI) as esta b l ished by the an n ual Infection C ontrol Depart m ental goals and objectives. Identifies and reports HAI in accordance with Pennsylvania and New Jersey PA reporting requirements. Reports co m m unicable diseases to the appropriate public health depart m e nts as required by statutes. Acts as a r e s ource/li a is o n to all custo m ers on matters of Infection Control and epide m iology. Functions as a professional role m od e l, including, but not l i m ited to proper handwashing technique and appropriate use of p e rsonal protective equip m ent (PPE). Institutes appropriate in f ection control m easures dee m ed necessary when it is reasonably felt there is a danger to any patient, staff m e m ber, visitor, or the environ m ent. Participates in collecting, reporting, and bench m a r king infections to the N ational Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Assists E m ployee Health Services in follow-up of e m ployee exposures. Enhances knowledge and professional develop m ent through participation in in-services and continuing education progra m s, reviewing current lite r ature, and m embership in the Association for Professionals in In f ection Control and Epide m iology (APIC). Participates in identifying depart m ental needs and supporting annual goals and objectives. Develops and conducts infection con t rol educational programs as needed. Serves on a p propriate c o mmittees, i n cluding, b u t not li m ited to, Infection Control Com m ittee. Maintains confidentiality of all m aterial handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of info r m ation. Utilizes e v i d ence based research to s upport a nd advance the p ractice of infection control and epide m iology. Participates in Perfor m a nce I m prove m ent activities. PHYSICAL AND S E NSORY REQUIRE M ENTS

Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a ti m e. Stand for up to 8 hours per day, 2 hours at a ti m e. Walk 6 hours per day; 1 0 m inutes at a ti m e. O ccasionally lift, carry, push or pull o b jects up to 25 lbs. Occasionally stoop or bend. Must be able to perceive attribu t es of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to nor m al conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to s e e as it r e lat e s to gene r al, near, far, color and peripheral vision. /Epidemiology or related field required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) is required within 5 years of hire. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred upon hire. CIC certification is required within 5 years of hire for all ICPs working in New Jersey.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of two (2) years experience required in Nursing, Microbiology/Epidemiology or related field. For RN, acute care clinical nursing experience required.
