Job Summary:
Coordinates the staff development orientation and ongoing training program for Facility. Sets the tone and atmosp to foster quality care and education in Facility. Acts as a mentor and coach for Facility clinical staff. Assigns employees for "on-the job' training with trainee or coordinates with Department Director to make "on-the-job" assignment. Monitors nursing employees inpleting the required Clinical Skills Checklist, assuring ability to perform tasks. Monitors employeepletion of assigned Healthcare Academy online training. Tests and monitors employee knowledge and performance of quality practice techniques during orientation period and "on-the-job" training on all shifts. Acts as the instructor for Med Aide training as necessary. Coordinates, schedules and directs in-house in-service for all staff. Maintains written reports of and attendance records for all formal education opportunities. Schedules workshops and/or continuing education opportunities pertinent to staff and encourages attendance and participation. Tracks and trends infectious diseases in Facility. Assess the need for, develop, and present IPCP in-service education for individual departments, general orientation, and annual review as needed Ensures staff and resident immunization programs are maintained. Serves on Quality Assurance Committee and attends monthly meeting. Notes areas found which need additional instruction/in-service to improve quality of care and in-service staff at next staff meeting assuring staff understands policies, procedures, and goals to be met to assure quality care. Conducts chart audits to ensure quality assurance standards taught are reflected in practice. Conducts Hazard Communication Standards training for all new employees. Assures that a copy of the Hazard Communication Standard and Safety Data Sheets are kept updated and available for staff access. Assists in reviewing resident and employee Incident s and follows-up/in-services when necessary. Assist in maintaining an accurate OSHA accident log. Provides oversight of the IPCP, which includes, at a minimum, the following elements: A system for preventing, identifying, reporting, investigating, and controlling infections andmunicable diseases for all residents, staff, volunteers, visitors, and other individuals providing services under a contractual arrangement based upon the facility assessment and following accepted national standards Written standards, policies, and procedures for the program, which must include, but are not limited to: A system of surveillance designed to identify possiblemunicable diseases or infections before they can spread to other persons in the facility; When and to whom possible incidents ofmunicable disease or infections should be reported; Standard and transmission-based precautions to be followed to prevent spread of Infections. Conducts Blood borne pathogens training for all new employees and presents updates to all staff at least yearly. Assures that a copy of the Exposure Control Plan for Blood borne Pathogens is available to all staff at all times. Provides ongoing teaching of infection control principles, performs infection control tracking and trending and antibiotic stewardship program. Gives direction and rational on when and how isolation should be used for a resident; including but not limited to: The type and duration of the isolation, depending upon the infectious agent oranism involved A requirement that the isolation should be the least restrictive possible for the resident under the circumstances. The circumstances under which the facility must prohibit employees with amunicable disease or infected skin lesions from direct contact with residents or their food, if direct contact will transmit the disease Maintains a system for recording incidents identified under the facility's IPCP and the corrective actions taken by the facility. Monitors personnel handling, storing, processing, and transporting of linen to prevent the spread of infection. Conduct outbreak investigations. Maintains a system for reporting possible incidents ofmunicable diseases to local, state, or national agencies as required.Job Requirements:
Must be a high school graduate. Must be a Registered Nurse, graduated from an accredited School of Nursing and be qualified by education, training, experience, or certification in infection control. Must have a current, valid RN license from the North Carolina or Compact State Board of Nursing and submit proof of license renewal every other year. Must possess current state approved infection control certificate and renew as necessary. Must be dependable, flexible, and able to work and cooperate well with all nursing personnel, other departments and have understanding, patience, and tact in working with patients, families, doctors, and others. Must have ability to make decisions regarding nursing problems, realizing that errors and ipetence may have serious consequences for patients and /or staff. Must be able to teach, instruct and direct orientation, continuing education, in-service, nurse aide program as well as act as Clinical Supervisor as needed. Works as charge nurse, and /or supervisor as needed in nursing emergencies. Make suggestions toward improving patient care and/or working conditions. Document concerns and/or suggestions and reports to Director of Nursing. Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and ensure that the facility leaders are informed of appropriate issues; understand andply with infection control, safety, and OSHA procedures and regulations Must read, know, and follow personnel, department and Facility policies and procedures and ad to local, state, and federal requirements. Must wear approved uniform. Must have neat professional appearance at all times. Promotes and maintains the highest moral and professional standards while on duty.
