Food & Consumer Products About the Opportunity Kelly Science & Clinical is seeking an experienced Senior Food Scientist for a direct-hire opportunity with a leading food industry organization in Fort Mill, SC. This position is ideal for an experienced food scientist with strong formulation and product development expertise who enjoys working hands-on in the lab while also leading products through pilot and commercial-scale production. The Senior Food Scientist will serve as a technical expert and project leader, developing and optimizing food products including dry blends, seasonings, sauces, breaders, batters, and other value-added food solutions . This role offers the opportunity to work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Quality, Operations, Procurement, and customers to bring new products from concept through commercialization. Key Responsibilities Lead the development and reformulation of products across dry blend, seasoning, sauce, batter, and breading categories. Conduct hands-on bench-top formulation, ingredient evaluation, prototype development, and product optimization. Design and execute experiments focused on flavor, texture, functionality, shelf life, consistency, and cost. Translate customer requirements and product concepts into commercially viable formulations. Conduct competitive product evaluations, benchmarking, and ingredient assessments. Lead scale-up activities from laboratory prototypes through pilot and commercial production. Support first production runs, process validation, troubleshooting, and manufacturing optimization. Partner with Operations and Quality to improve product consistency, yield, efficiency, and quality. Develop manufacturing instructions, process specifications, product standards, and technical documentation. Serve as the technical lead for assigned customer and innovation projects. Provide technical guidance to junior scientists, technicians, and cross-functional teams. Present technical findings and recommendations to leadership and customers. Support food safety, regulatory, labeling, ingredient approval, shelf-life, stability, and sensory evaluation activities. Manage multiple projects, timelines, milestones, and resources to support successful product launches. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related applied science . 7+ years of food product development and commercialization experience . Experience developing products such as seasonings, sauces, batters, breaders, meat systems, dry blends, or related food products . Strong hands-on formulation and product development experience. Experience taking products from bench-scale development through pilot and commercial production. Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to quantitatively write and review technical procedures, specifications, and regulations. Strong sensory evaluation skills, including the ability to accurately taste and smell food products. Ability to mix and compound seasoning blends and flour-based formulations. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Culinary experience or training. Experience working directly with customers on product development projects. Experience with food manufacturing scale-up and process optimization. Experience with shelf-life and stability studies, sensory testing, and competitive benchmarking.
