We are currently seeking a Staff Geologist 1 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Honolulu, HI or Makawao, Maui, HI office. In this role, you will support both environmental and geotechnical projects through a combination of field and office assignments. Geotechnical work will focus on field investigations, subsurface exploration, construction observation, field documentation, data organization, and related project support under the direction of experienced engineers and geologists. Environmental work will include site characterization and environmental compliance activities, with an emphasis on stormwater programs. You will gain practical experience in both disciplines and may have the opportunity to select a primary technical focus as your career develops. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will: Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols. Demonstrate the company's foundational safety behaviors. Split time and responsibilities between field assignments and office assignments. Under direction of senior staff, support geotechnical field programs and evaluations, including subsurface investigations, construction observation, field testing, and the organization and summarization of geotechnical information under the direction of experienced technical staff. Under direction of senior staff, support environmental compliance assignments, with an emphasis on stormwater programs, through fieldwork, inspections, data evaluation, reporting, and coordination with project teams, clients, and external stakeholders. Conduct field investigations and assessments of soil, groundwater, surface water, etc. using approved industry standard procedures. Use the results of field investigations such as subsurface explorations, monitoring well construction, field sampling and other work to support site characterization. Conduct basic construction observation, including quality control documentation and field-testing tasks. Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of activities both in the field and during data evaluation. Apply academic training and use computer software to perform calculations and evaluation of information. Under the direction of senior staff, participate in communications with clients and internal teams within your discipline. Draft technical sections of project communications and reports. Assist with the development of technical scopes of work and cost estimating for proposal efforts on small- to medium-sized project opportunities. Assist with the collection, documentation, and organization of field data in accordance with project specific plans.SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field. 0 to 2 years of related experience. Proficient technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time management skills. Able to work independently or with minimal direction in performing tasks and assignments under the direction of senior staff. Desire to learn and grow in their profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership. Familiar with environmental analytical testing and data reduction techniques for soil, water, and air. Strong problem-solving skills and aptitude to work with sampling equipment in the field. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software. Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions.
