Job Title:
Staff Professional Job Description The Staff Professional / Staff Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting engineering, geotechnical, and environmental projects. This position involves performing field observations, testing, analysis, reporting, and coordinating tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical aptitude, a commitment to safety and quality, and the ability to work effectively in both field and office settings under staff supervision. Responsibilities Perform field and laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, masonry, asphalt, and other materials in accordance with applicable ASTM standards such as ASTM D1557, D6938, C39, and C231. Observe and document construction practices to ensure compliance with approved project plans, specifications, and applicable codes. Operate specialized testing equipment, including nuclear density gauges, penetrometers, and concrete testing apparatus. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year program in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. Successful completion of the Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Geologist-In-Training (GIT) exam, or the ability to obtain certification within a reasonable time. 1-3 years of experience in construction materials testing. Knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geotechnical principles. Proficiency in geotechnical software and tools. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Pursuit of Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Professional Geologist (P.G.) registration when eligible is expected. Relevant certifications such as
ACI, ICC, OSHA
10/30-hour, and others as required. Desired certifications include EIT, OSHA, ACI, NICET, Nuclear Density Certification, and ICC. Work Environment This role involves lifting, carrying, and handling materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. It requires the ability to maneuver heavy equipment such as concrete wheelbarrows (150-200 lbs), soil density hammers (25 lbs), and nuclear density gauges (up to 90 lbs). Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks such as swinging concrete test devices, hand augering up to 10 feet, or excavating with hand tools. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
