Job Description

Staff Geologist GESTRA Engineering, Inc. is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented geologist to join our geotechnical team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to apply their technical knowledge to real-world engineering projects. About the Role As a staff engineer/geologist/scientist, you will work alongside our geotechnical drilling (soil boring) crews and engineering staff to document subsurface conditions, classify soils and rock, and collect field data used in the design of buildings, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure throughout Wisconsin. Key Responsibilities Log soil and rock samples in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS). Document subsurface conditions, drilling progress, groundwater observations, and sampling activities. Collect, organize, and label soil and rock samples for laboratory testing. Prepare accurate field notes and boring logs using company software and field documentation standards. Coordinate with drill crews and project engineers to ensure quality field data collection. Perform field testing and assist with geotechnical investigations as required. Maintain project documentation and ensure data is complete, organized, and accurate. Follow all company safety procedures and participate in daily safety meetings. Requirements Bachelor's degree (or working toward a degree) in Civil Engineering , Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Science, Geological Engineering, or a related discipline. Strong interest in geotechnical engineering and subsurface investigations. Ability to identify and classify soils and rock or willingness to learn. Excellent written documentation and organizational skills. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to hike over uneven terrain and lift up to 50 pounds. Valid driver's license with a good driving record. Willingness to travel as project schedules require. Experience with soil logging, geotechnical field investigations, or drilling operations is preferred but not required. Why Join GESTRA?
