Video Conference Position Summary The Medical Lab Scientist is responsible for performing routine and complex clinical laboratory testing while ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable patient results. This position supports the Core Laboratory and requires a Generalist with experience across Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and Blood Bank. The Medical Lab Scientist will operate and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, perform quality control activities, and make technical decisions related to testing and problem resolution. Key Responsibilities Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established laboratory criteria.
Perform routine and complex technical laboratory procedures in accordance with departmental SOPs.
Perform Generalist testing across Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, and Blood Bank.
Monitor, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
Make appropriate technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and quality controls.
Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
Assist with specimen processing and handling when required.
Perform Blood Bank testing and related laboratory procedures.
Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and records.
Maintain a safe work environment and follow all laboratory safety procedures and appropriate PPE requirements.
Work effectively both independently and as part of a laboratory team.
Remain flexible to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs. Required Qualifications Active Florida Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist License required.
ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification required.
Generalist clinical laboratory experience.
Blood Bank experience required.
Minimum 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience preferred/required.
Must meet applicable CLIA requirements for testing personnel.
Ability to pass a standardized color vision screening.
Strong attention to detail, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
Proficiency with computers.
Familiarity with laboratory information systems is preferred. Education Requirements Candidates must meet applicable CLIA standards through at least one of the following: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science; OR
Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science from an accredited college/university plus at least one year of training or experience in the specialty in which testing will be performed; OR
90 semester hours from an accredited institution, including: 16 semester hours of Biology
16 semester hours of Chemistry, including at least 6 hours of Inorganic Chemistry
3 semester hours of Mathematics
Plus completion of an accredited Clinical Laboratory Training Program or one year of documented clinical laboratory training/experience in the testing specialty; OR Associate's degree in Medical Technology.
