Akkodis is seeking a Principal Research Engineer to work in Warsaw, Indiana . This position leads and supports investigation and research activities for orthopedic products, including research planning, study execution, outcome tracking, biological evaluation, and risk assessment documentation. The Principal Research Engineer serves as a scientific subject matter expert to cross-functional teams and collaborates with external experts, laboratories, suppliers, CROs, and partner organizations to support product development and regulatory objectives. This is a W2 contract position.

Pay:

$90/hr up to $110/hr

Principal Research Engineer Responsibilities:

Identify, assess, and support the development of new and existing orthopedic products. Lead the development, review, and approval of technical documentation, including study protocols, reports, and biological safety risk assessments in accordance with

ISO 10993.

Develop strategies for technical investigations and provide scientific expertise to research teams and cross-functional stakeholders. Contribute biological safety content and supporting rationale for regulatory submissions and related technical documents. Serve as a subject matter expert for biological evaluation activities supporting new product development and sustaining products across the portfolio. Coordinate, initiate, and monitor laboratory studies and associated deliverables. Conduct biocompatibility assessments and organize required biological safety testing activities. Support the development of testing strategies and biological safety risk assessments for orthopedic products. Present scientific and technical information to internal teams, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies as needed. Provide medical and scientific expertise to project teams, Marketing, Sales, Clinical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Medical Information functions. Develop project updates, technical reviews, presentations, and data summaries. Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and external research collaborators. Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, and Engineering teams to advance research initiatives and product development objectives. Support additional research activities and strategic projects based on business needs.

Requirements:

Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline required; PhD or DVM preferred. Relevant disciplines include neuroscience, biomedical science, biology, toxicology, materials science, or related scientific fields. Bachelor's degree with significant directly related experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. 3 to 5 years of research experience in neuroscience, tissue histology, or related preclinical research disciplines. 3 to 5 years of hands-on preclinical in vivo research experience, including large animal model testing. 5+ years of experience in medical device R&D with responsibility for biological safety risk assessment. Strong knowledge of

ISO 10993

biological evaluation requirements. Experience supporting regulated product development programs preferred. Demonstrated project management, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration experience. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
