Scope of Position Central Processing Area encompasses specimen collection and receipt, specimen processing, specimen distribution, send out referral testing, and client services within the Department of Clinical Laboratories. The Central Processing Area is staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday. Position Summary The Lead Medical Technologist supports daily operations within the Central Processing Area, with focused oversight of the send-out area and Lab Customer Service functions. This role assists with operational workflows, billing-related processes, and coordination of services to support accurate, timely, and efficient patient care. The Lead Medical Technologist helps with the orientation and training of new staff within their assigned areas and may participate in the interview process for Lab Customer Service candidates. Responsibilities also include assisting with development and maintenance of learning materials, competency exams, and ongoing educational resources for staff. Administrative duties include providing training summaries, input on staff evaluations, technical procedure writing and implementation, supervision of staff, and record keeping. The Lead Medical Technologist works under the direction of the division director(s) and lab manager. Minimum Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution OR Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology AND Bachelor's degree in a chemical or biological science. 2 years of relevant experience required. ASCP certification required within 1 year of hire.
