Job Description
•Job Description•The role of Associate Scientist in the Biofermentation Department is to work within the Biofermentation Department to conceptualize, develop and scale-up ferments (active ingredients) that have skin benefits to be used in final product formulation. + Develop new Ferments - Conceptualize and develop new active ingredients using our fermentation technology and equipment. Must be able to coordinate the workflow of several products simultaneously. Must be able to write a project plan with objective and milestones. They must be flexible and able to work on multiple projects at once. + Operate independently in executing assigned technical tasks while maintaining close alignment with the broader team goals. Integrate individual results with those of other contributors to drive project progression, meet key milestones, and achieve defined project endpoints. + Perform routine microbial lab tasks (plate count, dilutions, sampling, clean glassware, make media, etc). + Follows culture media recipes and solutions to make stock solutions, agar and media + Isolates and cultures microorganisms. Performs routine passaging and inoculation of various microbes. Identifies microorganisms by microscopic examination and chemical analyses of substances produced by these microorganisms. + Reviews test results with immediate supervisor and maintain files and records. + Work performed in Biofermentation requires contact with Biosafety level 2 organisms which have been associated with human disease and hazard. Because of this risk, the daily responsibilities require uninterrupted focus by the analyst to the task at hand due to the potential impact to the analyst, product and potentially the consumer. + Must be able to work in a high volume/fast paced laboratory with agility for change. + Investigates, evaluates and implements new laboratory techniques. + Assists immediate supervisor in other functions and duties as assigned. •Qualifications•+ Bachelors' degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Chemistry + 1-2 years' experience in a laboratory setting preferred + Strong technical and interpersonal skills + Good communication skills + Works well both independently and part of a team + Excellent time management skills + Knowledge of Windows based computer programs.
