DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role supports molecular testing and microbiological diagnosis in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory. The work ensures accurate specimen processing and contributes to animal health protection across the state. As a Microbiologist 1, you will perform the following duties:

Molecular Testing:

Conduct molecular tests to identify infectious agents using established diagnostic methods

Sample Processing:

Extract DNA and RNA from organisms and analyze samples with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and related assays

Quality Tracking:

Document results, maintain logs, and enter data in the

Laboratory Information Management System Reagent Preparation:

Prepare solutions, calculate concentrations, and manage stock supplies for laboratory testing

Equipment Care:

Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and support routine housekeeping tasks

Compliance Support:

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

Telework:

You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, one day per month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in microbiology; or A bachelor's degree that includes 20 credits in microbiology, cellular biology, molecular biology or bacteriology and 12 credits in chemistry or biochemistry. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
