Job Description

You will combine problem-solving, data collection & analysis, time management, planning and prioritization, communication, and collaboration knowledge, skills, and abilities to assist in performing wastewater conveyance system investigations, flow monitoring equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, collect, analyze, and communicate wastewater flow data and information used to support various conveyance system improvement and combined sewer overflow projects and programs. You will have the opportunity to work individually and as part of a team with a wide range of people throughout Wastewater Treatment division (WTD), with consultants and other governmental agencies. About the Role The primary functions of this position are to assist in conducting flow monitoring site investigations, portable flow meter installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of monitoring equipment, field data collection and data quality and accuracy verification, field reviews of flow data and related information, traffic control support, confined space entry safety support and wastewater conveyance system inspection and monitoring under the oversight of a senior field staff and a lead and will work both independently and as part of a Flow Monitoring & Analysis team. These tasks are performed to support the existing system-wide flow monitoring program, and future small-to large-scale flow monitoring projects that provide efficient and effective flow data and information in support of King County WTD's Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Control Program, long-term Conveyance System Improvement (CSI) projects, regulatory reporting requirements, and construction and inspection activities within the WTD's Wastewater collection system. About the
Team:
The Flow Monitoring and Analysis (FM&A) Work Group performs monitoring of WTD's conveyance system to provide reliable flow data and information for the management and upgrade of the (wastewater conveyance) system. The Field Tech will work and collaborate with FM&A staff, project managers, planners, modeling staff, operations staff, and others to ensure useful, reliable flow data and information meet the capital and operating needs of WTD. Some of the projects and efforts the FM&A work group supports include: Assess system capacity and Infiltration/Inflow issues and determine system needs for long-term planning for the management and upgrade of the WTD conveyance system. Perform Hydraulic Modeling and Calibration. Quantify CSOs for NPDES reporting to the Washington Department of Ecology (DOE). Understand and evaluate flow conditions in support of a wide range of WTD programs and projects including Sewer Heat Recovery, Mouth of Duwamish (MOD), and Conveyance System Improvements. Determine the timing and sizing of future facilities and to foster the efficient use of funds. Manage the system during peak and/or emergency storm or flow events including collaborating with local agencies (example- monitor UIC wells and
SPU/KC M&M

The successful candidate will perform and assist in fieldwork in accordance with all WTD and Flow Monitoring & Analysis group Safety standards and requirements, standard operating procedures, and quality work Instructions. Field work includes, but not limited to the following: Assist in flow monitoring site investigations. Assist in Preparing flow monitoring site inspection/investigation reports essential for documenting the condition of the flow monitoring sites Assist in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of conveyance flow monitoring equipment Assist in the collection of data and review for accuracy; performing flow verification of flow monitoring sites to ensure the accuracy of the data collected Take detailed field notes and document work performed and results Maintain vehicle and equipment to ensure safety, mechanical soundness and productive operation Adhere to all safety procedures and King County/DNRP/WTD policies/procedures. Assist in Traffic Control/Flagging operations Provide assistance to other WTD Monitoring and Inspection programs as needed and as assignedQualifications You Bring:
Good mechanical skills and manual dexterity, ability to use essential Hand and Power tools effectively, properly and safely, and willingness and ability to work outdoors and in conditions present in a sewer. Skill and ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals and group stakeholders, including co-workers, management and in handling difficult conversations. Attention to detail and ability to follow standard work processes and instructions and ability to organize and handle multiple tasks and meeting established deadlines. Self-motivated to maintain standards in their own work and the data standards of the group. Previous flow monitoring experience including site investigations, meter installation, field verification, and data collection. Ability to operate, troubleshooting and problem solve technical issues with measuring/monitoring equipment. Knowledge of sewer inspection, testing, monitoring, and operations and maintenance of a water or wastewater collection system. Knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as Maximo. Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems such as ArcGIS. Training and certification in First Aid/CPR, Confined Space Entry, and Flagging/Work Zone Traffic Control.Physical Requirements:
This position requires the frequent lifting and carrying of inspection and monitoring equipment and the lifting of maintenance hole lids or covers and equipment that may weigh up to 100 lbs. There will be frequent entry into hazardous confined spaces to perform work that may require the individual to work bent over while walking through sewer pipelines or other confined spaces. Inspection work requires entry into live sewer pipelines and structuresWorkplace Exposure:
Working in a wastewater treatment environment with exposure to some wastewater pathogens and contaminants and chemicals. Live sewer pipelines and structures contain domestic, commercial and industrial wastes including medical wastes and a variety of industrial solvents. Exposure to raw sewage, blood borne pathogens, potentially hazardous chemicals, street traffic and electrical installations is part of the normal working condition. Unusual hazards, including explosive gases, toxic gases, and infectious, disease-producing micro-organisms may be present. Extensive driving is also required, and a vehicle is assigned to the position. Work pressure, disturbances of workflow and/or irregularities in work schedule is expected to occur. Employees in this position are issued appropriate safety equipment and provided training for all applicable safety procedures. Requirement:
Employees must reside in Washington State and be within a reasonable distance to King County worksites to meet onsite reporting requirements.Work Schedule:
This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.Union Representation:
