This position is expected to be located in Ashburn, Virginia, or Washington, DC. We estimate the award will be made later this year. Two full-time professionals will support U.S. Customs and Border Protection laboratory operations and interdiction technology programs. The work combines hands-on laboratory and field testing with scientific data analysis, equipment and inventory control, technical documentation, logistics, and program support. Work Arrangement Primarily full-time onsite at a CBP Interdiction Technology Branch office in Ashburn or Washington, DC, based on Government need at onboarding. Remote work may be authorized for specific requirements. Field work, CONUS travel, and occasional international travel may be required. Clearance Required Must be able to satisfy DHS and CBP suitability, personnel security, access, and training requirements. An active DoD Secret clearance is strongly preferred and may be required depending on assignment. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physical science, materials science, forensic science, biology, environmental science, engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline. 2 to 7 years of relevant experience supporting laboratory operations, scientific testing, technical programs, equipment management, or applied research and development. Basic understanding of laboratory practices, scientific methods, data collection, and technical documentation. Ability to assist with laboratory and field test planning, execution, observation, and reporting. Ability to analyze and summarize scientific or technical data using Microsoft Excel or similar software. Ability to translate technical information into clear language for technical and nontechnical audiences. Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, including chemists, physicists, engineers, logisticians, program managers, acquisition specialists, data analysts, and field operators. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, calibration records, maintenance logs, inventory tracking, or asset management processes. Ability to support multiple concurrent tasks, track action items, maintain organized records, and meet deadlines. Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint. Desired Qualifications Experience supporting federal laboratory, research and development, test and evaluation, or technology transition programs. Familiarity with laboratory quality practices, chain-of-custody concepts, safety documentation, or controlled equipment procedures. Experience preparing SOPs, technical reports, test reports, briefings, or acquisition-related technical inputs. Familiarity with data analysis, visualization, dashboard tools, GIS products, or modeling and simulation outputs. Experience with inventory management systems, government property controls, logistics coordination, or equipment lifecycle management. Understanding of systems engineering, requirements management, configuration management, or test and evaluation processes. Ability to support field demonstrations, operational assessments, or technology deployment activities. Active DoD Secret clearance or prior DHS/CBP suitability. Key Responsibilities Support laboratory operations, scientific testing, and interdiction technology activities for CBP Laboratories and Scientific Services. Assist with laboratory and field test planning, setup, execution, observation, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Maintain equipment inventories, calibration records, maintenance logs, property records, and equipment lifecycle documentation. Coordinate equipment, materials, shipping, receiving, storage, and other logistics needed for laboratory and field activities. Prepare and maintain SOPs, test plans, technical reports, briefings, schedules, action trackers, and acquisition or program documentation. Analyze and summarize scientific and technical data using Excel and other approved tools. Support systems engineering, requirements management, test and evaluation, demonstrations, operational assessments, and technology transition activities. Work with multidisciplinary Government and contractor teams while responding to changing priorities and concurrent assignments. Travel to field locations within the United States and occasionally internationally when approved and required.
