Confidential Position Overview A leading global healthcare organization is seeking a Senior Director of Research & Development to lead innovation, product development, sustaining engineering, and organizational transformation across a significant portfolio of high volume medical products. This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for an accomplished R&D executive who can bring a combination of technical depth, commercial mindset, and transformational leadership . The successful candidate will lead a geographically distributed organization, including teams based internationally, and will have responsibility for dedicated New Product Development (NPD) and Sustaining Engineering teams . The organization is seeking a leader who can assess the current R&D model, strengthen capabilities, develop talent, improve execution, and help transform the function for its next stage of growth. The product portfolio has a strong connection to the end user, making experience with products where usability, customer experience, quality, cost, and high volume scalability are all critical particularly valuable. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic and operational leadership for a multidisciplinary, geographically dispersed R&D organization, including an overseas engineering team . Lead dedicated New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering functions , ensuring the organization can effectively balance innovation with the needs of an established product portfolio. Drive the development and commercialization of new products from concept through launch and scale up. Establish a strong NPD pipeline and improve the organization's ability to translate customer and market needs into commercially successful products. Lead sustaining engineering activities focused on existing product performance, quality, cost, manufacturability, product improvements, and lifecycle management. Serve as a transformation and change leader , improving organizational capabilities, development processes, accountability, speed, and execution. Build, develop, and mentor high performing technical and engineering teams across multiple locations. Partner closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, and Commercial leadership. Drive design for manufacturability and scalability across high volume product platforms. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will bring significant progressive leadership experience within R&D, engineering, or product development in a regulated product environment. Candidates should have demonstrated experience leading both NPD and Sustaining Engineering organizations , managing teams across multiple locations or countries, and successfully bringing products from concept through commercialization. Experience with high volume consumables, disposables, or similarly scaled products is highly desirable, along with exposure to medical devices, healthcare products, consumer health, diagnostics, drug delivery, or other regulated product environments. Most importantly, this individual should have a demonstrated track record as a change agent , with the ability to evaluate an existing R&D organization, identify opportunities for improvement, build stronger teams and processes, and lead meaningful transformation. Compensation The anticipated base salary range is $200,000 to $250,000 , depending on experience and qualifications. The position also includes a short term incentive bonus and long term equity compensation , along with a comprehensive executive benefits package. This is a confidential search.
