•We are seeking an experienced Consulting Staff Research Associate II to join our team at the Laboratory Animal Resource Center (LARC). This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, from 7 AM to 4 PM, based at our Parnassus Avenue facility. This role involves providing basic veterinary assessment and care for rodents and other species to facilitate daily operations of the animal health and welfare, and research support programs. The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of relevant experience. Please note that this position does not require previous animal experience, nor are we looking for candidates with PhDs or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees.
Responsibilities:
Conduct animal health surveillance for rodents and other species as assigned Communicate lab and health information to researchers Support website function Participate in rodent sentinel health or similar programs Draft SOP's Provide training to Lab or LARC staff Perform necropsy techniques and other diagnostic or clinical diagnostic techniques Perform administrative tasks as needed by LARC Assist LARC's animal health and rodent health programs and support LARC veterinarians and UCSF research projects.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to independently analyze lab reports, summarize findings and communicate results to veterinarians, researchers, and others Excellent organizational, computer, and technical skills for database management, file maintenance, spreadsheets, and word processing Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write standard operating procedures, communicate rodent health issues and reports, and discuss rodent diagnostic procedures & diseases, and standard treatments Valid California Driver's license and participation in the California DMV's Pull Notice System required Physical ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, move on hard surfaces for up to 7 hours/day, push and pull heavy objects, and safely move and/or lift heavy loads Ability to review data, research protocols, or other written documents and provide guidance or training to research groups or LARC units Either possess or have demonstrated aptitude for quickly obtaining a working knowledge of regulations and animal welfare requirements Mandatory participation in the department's occupational health monitoring program and pre-employment medical evaluation is required.
