Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
This position will assist in the development and integration of the Giraffe Center into the zoo community through administrative work and data collection. The position requires a positive and exemplary demeanor when interacting with members, clients, donors, staff, and the peripheral giraffe community. Adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and standards is essential, with a strong emphasis on promoting teamwork. This position requires the ability to efficiently manage their time and take initiative with little supervision.

 Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with internal and external partners.  Solid online communication and information distribution skills, including social media content aligned with organizational guidelines.  High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.  Ability to prioritize projects, manage multiple deadlines, and work efficiently under pressure.  Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.  Pride in responsibilities and work quality.  Ability to research, analyze, summarize, and present information for review, discussion, and publication.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, internet applications, Zoom, and Teams; database experience preferred.  Ability to learn organizational software systems and website administrative tools.  Calm, adaptable, and collaborative approach when working across multiple departments.  Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise professional discretion.  Ability to effectively support workshops, conferences, registrations, and presentations.  Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and successfully complete required background and screening processes.
Responsibilities and Duties:
 Assist in the development and integration of the Giraffe Center into the zoo community through administrative support and research activities.  Process payment information and registration materials.  Coordinate workshop preparations, scheduling, setup, and attendee registrations.  Communicate effectively between clients and the Giraffe Center, including responding to emails within 1-2 business days.  Design PowerPoint presentations, flyers, newsletters, and other communication materials for the Center, SAFE Giraffe, and the Giraffe SSP.  Moderate and maintain online forums, websites, and Facebook groups associated with the Giraffe Center.  Assist in behavioral research projects.  Support the preparation, writing, and organization of papers for publication.  Coordinate conference logistics including hotel arrangements, vendors, and registration information.  Work collaboratively with giraffe center staff to prioritize and complete projects.  Utilize online platforms including Zoom and Microsoft Teams for meetings, workshops, and communication.  Assist in the giraffe barn if the animal care team needs help with completing projects.  Operate zoo vehicles as required.  Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. Professional Engagement & External Partnerships  Serve as a professional representative of the Giraffe Center and Zoo in all interactions with members, donors, clients, staff, vendors, and the broader giraffe community.  Collaborate across animal care, development, marketing, IT, and giraffe center teams to support organizational goals and initiatives.  Maintain positive relationships with conference vendors, workshop participants, and external partners.  Contribute to public-facing communications and online engagement efforts that strengthen awareness and participation in giraffe center programs.  Uphold professionalism, courtesy, and responsiveness in all communications and interactions. Organizational Culture & Positive Work Environment  Promote teamwork, collaboration, and a positive work environment across all departments.  Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, safety standards, and professional guidelines, including AZA, USDA, OSHA, and Zoo policies.  Demonstrate reliability through regular attendance, punctuality, and effective time management.  Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and communicate ideas and concerns to supervisors.  Support coworkers and organizational goals with a cooperative, solution-oriented mindset.  Maintain a professional appearance and represent the Zoo positively at all times.  Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION
This is a fully benefited position including group medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; paid holidays, vacation & sick time; retirement plan; a zoo membership; eligibility for the bonus program; and discounts on concession and gift shop purchases. Compensation for this position is $22.12/hour/full time/40 hours a week.
