Job Description

The Graduate Research Appointment (GRA) is a post-baccalaureate appointment for participants with an interest in biomedical research. The primary purpose is to provide a post-baccalaureate laboratory research experience that applies skills in science, technology, engineering or math to biomedical research including basic science or translational research. GRA participants will have the opportunity to participate in selected graduate classes and seminars while working in this role. The Dr. Shizhen (Jane) Zhu Laboratory at Mayo Clinic in Rochester is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and responsible individual to join our research team. Our laboratory aims to unravel the molecular pathogenesis of neuroblastoma, a pediatric cancer, and to identify and explore novel therapeutic strategies for this disease. The successful candidate should have basic knowledge and hands-on experience in molecular and cell biology. Previous experience with zebrafish or mouse models and/or mammalian cell culture is preferred. In addition to participating in research projects, the selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining the zebrafish facility and assisting with the preparation of general laboratory reagents, such as stock solutions and buffers, as well as routine laboratory organization and maintenance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as a high level of responsibility and attention to detail. Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorship now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee or asylee. Students that do not meet these criteria do not qualify. Applicants who are currently in Graduate or Medical School are not eligible.
