Job Description
Institutional Research Director
POSITION DETAILS
- The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC), part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system, is a vibrant, pluralistic learning community committed to students' intellectual and personal growth.
- Ensure all federal, state, and other external reporting requirements are submitted or responded to accurately and in a timely manner.
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of Institutional Research team including budget development and administration, supervision and evaluation of direct reports
- Analyze data to produce and update interactive dashboards, institutional reports, graphical presentations, visualizations, etc.
- Manage, complete, and track both ad hoc and recurring data requests submitted to the office, including regularly scheduled reporting cycles and anticipated institutional data needs.
- Coordinate, collect, and document the integration of data from diverse internal and external sources, including the development of data source guides and dictionaries to support transparency and consistency.
- Design and produce data reports that support assessment activities and enable ongoing evaluation of program and initiative effectiveness.
- Develop and/or interpret predictive analytics to inform decision-making and best practices.
- Work collaboratively with senior management and other stakeholders to support grant applications and reporting, scholarly activities, and other research projects.
- Develop analytical studies on student enrollment, retention, and other success metrics to inform and support strategic enrollment initiatives, student success efforts, and student learning.
- Effectively communicate and present data findings to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and actionable insights.
- Provide expert consultation to college personnel on data management, research methodology, analysis, and interpretation.
- Develop, implement, and sustain a culture of evidence by promoting high standards for data quality and integrity and utility across departments.
- Support institutional planning and goal setting by tracking progress toward college's strategic plan and ensure that the strategic plan is integrated with college, CUNY and state planning initiatives.
- Employee the use of Artificial Intelligence to enhance office workflow and support stakeholders.
- Implement best practices for data documentation, governance, and security.
- Serve on various college-wide and external committees, task forces, project teams, advisory groups, affinity groups, etc., as assigned.
- Keep abreast of current data analysis, Artificial Intelligence (AI), data ethics, external reporting, assessment, accreditation, and other relevant and appropriate bets practices, platforms, tools, and software.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate degree in data science, statistics, or related field.
- Experience with statistical software (e.g. R or Python)
- Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Tableau or Power BI).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Experience working in data analytics role in higher education.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Copilot or similar software.

- Works collaboratively with senior management on issues of assessment, including general institutional effectiveness and measures of student success and learning
- Designs and oversees research efforts with an institutional scope and assists departments and offices with focused research needs

- Manages institutional research data systems and other resources
- Maintains standard management information and official statistics for internal and external reporting

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
- Salary range is $95,094
- $109,519; commensurate with qualifications, education and experience.
