Part-Time Undergraduate Research Assistant needed to support a federally funded clinical research study at the Syracuse VA Medical Center focused on alcohol use disorder treatment.
This position supports:
Evaluating Implementation and Effectiveness of Alcohol Use Disorder Care Management in Primary Care (ACM): a NIAAA-funded hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial testing a primary care based alcohol pharmacotherapy and care management model for Veterans with alcohol use disorder. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduating senior interested in clinical research, public health, psychology, or a related field to gain hands-on experience with a federally funded study before entering the workforce or pursuing graduate study. There is potential for increased hours and/or transition to a full-time position upon graduation, based on study needs and performance. Primary duties include assisting with recruiting, screening, and consenting study participants; supporting structured clinical research assessments with Veterans under staff supervision; assisting with scheduling and completing follow-up contacts; helping maintain accurate study records; entering and reviewing research data; and supporting regulatory, IRB, and reporting activities as assigned. Additional duties may include supporting electronic medical record-based data pulls and other data-management activities in coordination with the study data team. The Research Assistant will conduct assigned activities in accordance with study protocols, standard operating procedures, VA policies, and applicable human-subjects and privacy requirements, under the guidance of study staff. Candidates must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in their final year (graduating senior) pursuing a degree in psychology, health science, public health, social science, or a closely related field. No prior clinical research experience is required, though experience in an academic, medical, or community setting is a plus. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and written communication skills, good organizational habits, basic computer proficiency, and the ability to manage tasks reliably while balancing coursework. Interest in working with Veteran populations or individuals with substance use histories is preferred. The selected candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality and complete required VA and research compliance trainings.
