A Research Assistant assists with a research program or project. Works in a variety of fields within science or the social sciences, in programs based at a university or research institution, or works on government or industry sponsored research projects. Conducts field or library research or recruits participants for a study; may also assist with legal research. Typically conduct research under the guidance of senior researchers or professors. These roles are often held by undergraduate or graduate students pursuing degrees in relevant fields, or individuals with relevant work experience.

POSITION SUMMARY
Assists in the general operations of the registrar's office. Aids the Registrar in implementing the academic program, developing the schedule of courses, maintaining accurate academic records and the student information system. Directs institutional research activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the Registrar in managing the daily operations of registrar's office including responding to student, faculty, and visitor requests, answering calls and emails, ordering office supplies, processing transcript requests, and maintaining accurate and complete academic records for all students. Assists the Registrar in managing graduation, including graduation audits for all students, preparation of graduate list, ordering of diplomas. Maintains university catalog updates, registrar's pages on website, and my.bluffton.edu resources. Maintains advising module, including building advising trees, and four-year plans. Assists in course entry and registration. Assists in preparing for new student summer orientations. Collects needed information from faculty, including class lists, course syllabi, grades, last dates of attendance, etc. Prepares student athlete eligibility forms for the faculty athletic representative. Generates reports for the College Credit Plus (CCP) program. Manages implementation of the Arts & Lecture program. Coordinates the efforts of various offices involved in fulfilling institutional research tasks. Provides data for institutional planning as required. Coordinates collection of data as required by external constituencies such as HLC, ODHE, Department of Education, etc.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other tasks as assigned by supervisor. Occasional evening and/or weekend duties as needed (determined by supervisor).
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
A bachelor's degree and some prior related work experience with general computer proficiency, including knowledge of Word and Excel.
Preferred:
A master's degree and experience in an academic environment. Experience in a data-based student information system such as Jenzabar is particularly beneficial.
Skill/Abilities:
Organizational skills with keen attention to detail; computer proficiency, particularly in data-based student information system; good written and verbal communication skills; ability to handle multiple tasks; ability to work independently; good interpersonal skills.
