CIWRO Location Norman Oklahoma Open Date Sep 25, 2026 Description Position Description The Cooperative Institute for Severe and High-Impact Weather Research and Operations (CIWRO) at The University of Oklahoma is currently seeking a Research Associate or Research Scientist to advance weather radar technologies with the Advanced Radar Techniques (ART) team. The ART team is dedicated to improving meteorological products from weather radars by pioneering signal-processing and remote-sensing techniques, harnessing the potential of phased-array radar for weather observations, and transferring technology to operational systems. This collaborative work with NOAA's National Severe Storms Laboratory (NSSL) presents an exciting opportunity to shape the future of weather radar applications and contribute to cutting-edge research and development. Job Responsibilities Contribute to the design, development, and testing of signal processing algorithms that improve the quality of weather radar products Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to support, evaluate, and update weather radar techniques Work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to design, develop, and implement signal processing enhancements for weather radar systems Attend technical meetings, workshops, and professional conferences to present research results and interact with collaborators Provide support for regular summaries of work accomplishments through technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications as needed (Research Scientist only) Lead research and development efforts in advancing the science and transition of next-generation weather radar technologies Qualifications Qualifications We are looking for candidates who possess: Ph.D. (Research Scientist) or M.S. (Research Associate) in Electrical Engineering or a related field Expertise in signal processing theory and techniques Demonstrated proficiency in developing complex simulations using MATLAB Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to work both independently and cooperatively with others It is preferred that applicants demonstrate knowledge of weather radar, though specialized knowledge of remote sensing, radar systems, or atmospheric science is not required.
