Job Description:
About the Company We are looking for an Intellectual Property Associate to help protect and strengthen our IP portfolio. In this role, you will work closely with research and business teams to identify new innovations, evaluate opportunities for protection, support patent prosecution, and maintain key IP records and agreements. This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of technology, law, and business strategy. About the Role Partner with research staff to identify, document, and organize inventions and other intellectual property assets. Responsibilities Review new disclosures to assess patentability, business value, and alignment with company priorities. Support the development and execution of IP protection strategies for inventions and related assets. Coordinate with internal stakeholders and outside counsel on patent filings, office action responses, and related legal documents. Maintain accurate docketing, records, correspondence, deadlines, and portfolio reports. Prepare status updates and reports on portfolio activity and overall IP health for management. Review the portfolio over time and provide insights that support business planning and future research efforts. Monitor relevant IP activity and help identify potential infringement risks or enforcement opportunities. Track budget-related information and maintain accurate records for the IP function. Prepare, update, and track confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, joint development agreements, and related coordination activities. Qualifications Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred. At least three years of experience in intellectual property protection, technology transfer, or patent law practice. Experience or academic background in physics, materials science, or semiconductors preferred. Knowledge of foreign patent laws and/or proficiency in Japanese is a plus. Required Skills A proactive, curious, and thoughtful approach to problem-solving in intellectual property matters. Working knowledge of U.S. patent law and relevant business or regulatory considerations. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and legal information clearly. Comfort using patent management systems, docketing tools, and standard office software. Ability to learn complex technologies quickly and translate them into practical IP protection strategies. A collaborative mindset and the ability to support research staff and management with clear guidance and updates. Preferred Skills Leadership and Collaboration Lead and manage day-to-day IP protection activities. Serve as a resource to in-house research staff on invention disclosures and related IP matters. Work Hours Full-time, on-site position. Expected schedule is 40 hours per week. Core business hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility based on business needs.
